Today’s funding landscape is imperfect. We will do our part to fix that.
Funding brilliant energy and climate change scientists is our reason for existence. We accept potentially game-changing proposals, critically review them and finance the best ones. We also intend to correct some common flaws in the funding process:
Scientists spend too much time writing grants and reporting project status and too little time doing research. Proposals to OUR&D are less burdensome for researchers, but still rigorously peer reviewed. We are even open to funding individuals as well as projects, much as MacArthur Fellows are awarded for their exceptional creativity.
Research staff, inventors, postdocs, and scientists at less visible universities have great experimental ideas, but seldom have an avenue for funding. Our outreach will ensure that these people and ideas are recognized and funded.
Early-stage research is often cut off from real world impact. We nurture our projects throughout their journey from research to impact on our everyday, energy-consuming lives. With this in mind, we have established technical and strategic scientific advisory boards including experts in prototyping and venture formation, to ensure that no insight is left behind.
Through our own research, we understand that climate concerned citizens and companies frequently feel powerless and hopeless when they consider climate change. They know they need to take action, but often do not know what that action should be. We have established a scientifically-based framework that also lets people and brands fund properly vetted projects coinciding with their interests and industries.
