Today’s funding landscape is imperfect. We will do our part to fix that.
OUR&D will accept potentially game-changing proposals, critically review them and finance the best ones. We also intend to correct some common flaws in the funding process:
Scientists spend too much time writing grants and reporting project status and too little time doing research. Proposals to OUR&D are less burdensome for researchers, but still rigorously peer reviewed. We are open to funding individuals as well as projects, much as MacArthur Fellows are awarded for their exceptional creativity.
Research staff, inventors, postdocs, and scientists at less visible universities have great ideas, but seldom have an avenue for funding. Our outreach will ensure that these people are recognized and funded.
Early-stage research is often cut off from real world impact. We will nurture our projects throughout their journey from experiment to impact on our everyday, energy-consuming lives. With this in mind, we have established advisory boards including experts in prototyping and venture formation, to ensure that no insight is left behind.
We’ve also established a scientifically-based framework that also lets people and brands fund properly vetted projects coinciding with their interests.
